If you haven’t realized by now, I have quite the sweet tooth…hence the name of my blog! One of my favorite things to do is bake! Several years ago, I decided to take my love of baking to a new level, so I began baking and decorating cakes.
The very first cake I ever decorated was a cake I made in 2007 for the birth a friends’ twin babies. I picked up a beginners book on cake decorating at Hobby Lobby along with a handful of cake decorating necessities – piping tips and bags, an icing spatula, and a cake board. Along with the cake and icing ingredients, this was all I needed to start decorating!
Here’s a picture of that first cake.
I remember baking, making, and delivering that cake like it was yesterday. I was so proud of that masterpiece! Now I look at this picture and chuckle inside at how basic it is and I criticize a lot of the decorating. But for my first decorated cake, I think it looked pretty good!
My love for decorating cakes started that day, and ever since I have continued to learn new cake decorating techniques and I now have a rather long portfolio of cakes that I’ve made for friends and family. I’ve made birthday cakes, wedding cakes, groom’s cakes, baby shower cakes, holiday cakes, 1st birthday cakes, gluten-free wedding cakes, cakes for friends who have peanut allergies, and I’ve even made a bachelor party cake (however, that cake is not appropriate to post on here!)
One of my favorite things to decorate is a tiered cake, especially a wedding cake! I took on the daunting task of baking and decorating MY OWN wedding cake, as well as the groom’s cake! So crazy I know! But with the help of my mom, who is also a VERY talented cake decorator, we somehow pulled it off!
I LOVED my wedding cake! It was so elegant and timeless.
My husband’s groom cake was fitting as he’s a big Bear’s fan and we met at a Cowboy’s vs. Bears football game at Cowboy’s stadium!
Here are just a sample of some of the cakes that I have made in the past.
I’ve been decorating cakes for 12 years and don’t plan on stopping this fun hobby of mine! I plan on doing several “How-To” posts on the different cake decorating techniques as well as the different cake and icing recipes I use. Follow my page and check back often if you’d like to learn the art of cake decorating or if you just want to see some awesome cakes!Have a sweet day! ~ JEN
