Since we’ve been using cloth diapers, we’ve decided to give the cloth baby wipes a try as well. I’ve been using the cloth wipes for about 2 weeks now and it couldn’t be easier. Plus I’m not wiping nasty chemicals all over my little ones face! These wipes can be customized to whatever ingredients you have on hand. I bet you already have everything needed to make these sitting around your house. I can feel good about using them on any part of the body – face, hands, bottom! I simply throw these in the same bin as the dirty cloth diapers and wash them all together.
To begin you’ll need some sort of cloth. I had 2 plain white receiving/swaddle blankets that I never used. I cut them into approximately the size of a baby wipe. I also had a spare empty wipes container. Next, you’ll need some sort of baby wash. I love the Shea Moisture brand of products. I love all of their products, and they smell SO GOOD! You can use what you have on hand. You’ll also need an oil, I use coconut oil. It’s moisturizing and has anti-microbial properties that are great at keeping mold/mildew away if you don’t use these fast enough. You can also use jojoba, almond, olive, or whatever oil you have on hand. Also, you’ll need distilled water. If you don’t have any on hand, just boil your water. That will do the trick!
Fold the cloth wipes and place them in the container.
Now it’s time to mix up the wipe solution.
Ingredients:
1 Cup Distilled Water
~1 tablespoon baby wash (I use Shea Moisture Baby wash)
~1 tablespoon Coconut Oil (or your oil of choice)
Directions:
Measure out 1 cup of distilled water in a measuring cup. Heat the water in the microwave for about 2 minutes so that it’s warm and the baby wash and oil can blend well. Once the water is heated, add in the baby wash and coconut oil and stir to blend. Pour over the wipes in the container and viola! You have homemade baby wipes! Enjoy!
